DESCRIPTION
EOYS (End-of-the-Year Show) is the Graphic Design program’s annual exhibition at the California Institute of the Arts. The 2026 theme, CalAir, reimagines the exhibition as an airport where multiple design journeys intersect, emphasizing the year-long process of making over final outcomes.
The logo design was inspired by the shape of an airplane and its window. An initial concept explored replacing the letter “A” with a plane form, but the final direction shifted toward a more playful and abstract interpretation. The chosen third iteration subtly captures the feeling of flight and airport atmosphere with a touch of playfulness.
This playful tone led to the development of “Welcome Aboard!” as the core language of CalAir. Based on this concept, a system of logo variations and multi-purpose icons was developed to support different applications across the exhibition.
The exhibition is structured into year-level terminals, with each project functioning as a gate. Visitors enter a new journey through each gate and return to the central airport space before continuing to another destination. This creates a cyclical spatial narrative of departure and return. A custom map system was designed to guide movement and define circulation across the exhibition space. I led the development of the spatial storytelling and information design system for this structure.
Takeaway objects were designed to help visitors remember their journey through the exhibition, including boarding passes, luggage tags, stickers, and passport-inspired items.
As part of the CalArts Graphic Design social media team, I handled the posting of promotional content before the exhibition and created recap posts afterward.
